Why do I like the Memorial Collection?

LEARNING ABOUT THE MEMORIAL COLLECTION TOGETHER

Through conversation, play, and computer presentation, children learn about The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection and have their first experience on contemplating art, language of art and manner in which art pieces are preserved. They learn how to behave in a museum, but they also learn that these rules are not there to prevent them from feeling right at home in this pleasant place. Furthermore, they are free to creatively fulfill the time they spend in the Collection, taking part in many interesting programs our art workshops have to offer.

WHAT DOES THE PAINTING HIDE? (Annual theme)

During the 2010, The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection organized the children workshop called One Painting, One Story: What Does the Painting Hide? for pre-school and grammar school kids. The goal of this new program is to help the participants learn more about pieces from the Memorial Collection’s permanent exhibition which are «hiding» mysterious characters like Milan Konjovic’s Cira Falcione, Petar Dobrović’s The Figure, Nedeljko Gvozdenović’s Little Milan, Nadežda Petrović’s Ksenija Atanasijević, and Jovan Bijelić’s A Girl with a Book. Children will also learn a lot about the Memorial Collection and collector and diplomat Pavle Beljanski through various computer presentations.

Workshops will be held two or three times a month. This project will last seven months in total and it will include multimedia exhibitions of children’s works which are traditionally held in the Collection during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

BIG LITTLE ARTIST

FOR CHILDREN AGE 4 TO 9-10

These courses are intended for preschool and grammar school children and are conducted in cooperation with art teachers from grammar schools and the Vocational School of Pedagogy. After the guided tour of the Collection, which is supposed to arouse children’s curiosity, we introduce the art pieces from the permanent display with an emphasis on a certain theme (portrait, self-portrait, still life) or art technique. After their first contact with the world of art, children learn the basics of drawing and painting, developing a special bond with the artwork from the Beljanski Collection. Third and fourth grade students also get a short course in «museum etiquette», and are being introduced to different museum jobs.

Workshops are being held once a week and they last two school classes.

I BECAME A TEENAGER

Museum is a place where students can develop their ability to criticize and create independently, using various sources of knowledge, whether it is the school curriculum or some other source. Moreover, it is a place where students can get to know themselves and their surroundings, enhancing their sensitivity towards others, especially people who are different, and first and foremost, acquire «hands on» knowledge on art pieces from the Pavle Beljanski Collection, as well as on museums in general.

FOR GRAMMAR SCHOOL CHILDREN, AGE 10 TO 14
Courses intended for children of this age are prepared in association with the school counselors and other workshop associates. Through teamwork and practical work, participants learn about different art techniques (drawing, painting, and sculpture). At the same time, with the assistance of curators they learn the language of art, how to observe art pieces, and how to understand and interpret the art itself.

FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, AGE 14 TO 18
High school students are actively involved in workshop courses by assuming the role of «researchers». They are given the opportunity to conduct their own searches for streets named after artists from the Collection, or to solve computer quizzes and in that way uncover various facts about art that catches their interest. Depending on the professional orientation and interests of the participants, other special workshops of a more complex nature (such as: graphics, design, literature workshops, etc...) will also be organized in the Memorial Collection.

WHEN I GROW UP I WANTO TO BE A BE A COLLECTOR

Almost all young children show affinity towards collecting various items (cards, marbles, toy cars, etc...), and studies have shown that it inspires children to form true values, as well as their own taste and standards. The Memorial Collection interactive course gives young collectors a chance to learn more about various types of collections through the history of this discipline. The best example for that is Pavle Beljanski’s private collection, acquired over a period of forty years and donated to our country as the Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection. The goal of this workshop is for children to share with each other their previous experiences in collecting various items, and to arrange an exhibition with their collections at the end of the workshop.

IN THE GALLERY WITH MOM AND DAD

Dear parents, find some spare time to bring your children to the museum and give them the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of discovering new horizons. Teach your child to love museums. Come to the Memorial Collection on any last weekend of the month, and participate in one of the workshops intended for our youngest visitors. One of the perks is that you can leave your child in our care in the Collection, where it will, in the company of their friends and our curators, master a wide variety of creative games based on art motifs – completing puzzles, coloring books, the game of finding the flaw, etc.

CHILDREN’S NIGHT OF THE MUSEUMS

Even the youngest visitors have their role in the Night of the Museums. During the evening, artworks they have created in workshops are displayed in the Museum courtyard in the same manner in which the pieces are displayed in the Pavle Beljanski Collection. This exhibition is accompanied by a video presentation rich with material from our previous art workshops.
